Some individuals become restless during a meeting, and they dislike doing nothing, and they start doodling to ease their boredom. Typically, these hand-drawn forms are a product of anger, exhaustion, and stress. They are basic sketches that may have concrete relevance for representation or can be abstract shapes. Remember drawing tiny hearts at the back of the notebook or scribbling something on a paper while you attend a meeting? That was you DOODLING! But what exactly does it mean?ĭoodling refers to drawing, sketching, or scribbling idly, while a person's attention is otherwise occupied. We have all doodled at some point or the other in our lives. As years progressed, it became a patriotic song for Americans and gradually developed into Connecticut's new state anthem. As for the record, Americans took it, modified it, and sang it to make fun of their enemies during the war. That's how the term "doodle" came into being to express "simpleton" or "fool." Dudel or dödel are German variations of the etymon, from which it was thought to be derived. To say American fools, the British invented the word Yankee Doodle. During the war, they sang it (in the same melody as Jack and Jill, the nursery rhyme) to taunt the disorganised American soldiers. In history, a group of British military officers produced a song named 'Yankee Doodle' during the pre-Revolutionary War in America. The root of the word tells a distinct and comical tale. The nearest English word is "scribble" to describe it. While the stepping stones that began the doodle art form were these two creations, doodle itself was not about drawing. On the clay pieces' edges and sides, some rescued tablets from Mesopotamian cultures were said to have the same random images. After that, the paintings progressed from cave walls to clay tablets around 3200 BC. The earliest drawings mentioned here were found in France and Spain. For drawing geometric shapes, human paws, and wild animals, cave dwellers used stones and sticks. Back in those days, to interact and tell a story (or as some may claim, to conduct rituals), humans drew ancient human-made chicken-like etchings on cave walls.

Doodle art has been around since the prehistoric cave paintings 40,000 years ago.
